Wonderfully mortifying. That was the phrase that popped into her head when she discovered her father lying in a pool of his own blood, he was in a position that probably was not humanely possible. Sweat trickled down her back at a stuttering, dead, unprecedented pace. It was almost as if the sweat was mocking the scene unfolding before her eyes. She felt herself retch at the pungent smell as approaching him, she looked closely at him, examining him to find anything that would indicate the cause of death. Dried blood formed inside his ears and that was when she noticed. Paperclips. All were attached, in a seemingly rushed formation. It went through both of his ears and came out in strings and coiled tightly around his neck, meticulously leading from the pole of the shower curtain. Curiosity was the emotion that enveloped her, the tears never came, the pain did not, the anger. Just nothing. In fact, she found it thrilling, she was enthralled by the sight. Her finger never stumbled, nor did her breath falter as she spoke to the emergency operator. Maybe it was a mere state of shock or maybe it was a way of telling her how much of a cold-hearted person her father always told her she was. It was quite amusing, as how his death proved his words to be right. She recalled how the police came swarming in, the paramedics, she didn’t remember who but someone escorted her out, asking if she was okay and if there was anyone they could call, after that it all became a blur. She could not help the bubbling in her throat that exhumed the hysterical laughter that followed, nor could she have predicted the gates behind her eyes that were finally broken for him.
